Organizing Neighborhoods for Emergency Response

Through lecture, discussion and hands-on activities participants will gain information on:

  • Design for a Volunteer Management Plan and Organizing and Registering Volunteers
  • Communication Strategies – day to day and during emergency response
  • The Block Captain System
  • Individual and Family Preparedness
  • Building a “Go Kit”
  • Evacuation/Shelter in Place Plans
  • How to Manage Logistics
  • Developing and Maintaining Partnerships (local emergency groups, businesses, government)
  • Records Administration – managing training records, team rosters & specialized responders
  • Strategies and tools for engaging residents in emergency response preparation
  • Strategies and tools to develop block level leadership
  • Additional resources for volunteer leadership development

This training is designed to expand the involvement of community based organizations in disaster response. Attendees will learn how to engage in community level training and management of volunteers in the aftermath of disasters.
